2009 Wine & Roses Features Fantastic Varieties and Familiar Faces
Former, Current and Potential Future Mayors Roll Up Their Sleeves and Lend a Hand
The 2009 Wine & Roses wine-tasting fundraiser will have both new and familiar faces behind the pouring stands at this year’s Taste of Tacoma ®. Former Tacoma mayors, the current mayor and mayoral candidates in Tacoma’s upcoming election will lend a hand at this year’s Wine & Roses, a fundraiser for the Greater Metro Parks Foundation. Wine & Roses takes place in the Rose Garden as a part of the Emerald Queen Casino Taste of Tacoma ®, June 26 – 28.
The former mayors, current Mayor Bill Baarsman and mayoral candidates will be on hand to pour wine and chat with guests from 5 – 8 p.m. in Friday evening in the Rose Garden.
“As mayors of Tacoma we did not always agree on all the issues, but we certainly all agree to unite and support our vital and beautiful park system. Our parks have given us the opportunity to reunite and serve the broader community in a meaningful and productive way. After all, great cities are made by great parks. What better way to make a different in every person’s life than to come together in support of our parks. Plus, it’s a heck of a lot of fun!” former Tacoma Mayor and Speaker of the House Brian Ebersole said.
Admission to Wine & Roses is free and guests can purchase wine in several ways. A tasting package of five tastes and a souvenir glass can be purchased for $15; with additional tastes at $2 each. Guests may also purchase a glass of wine to enjoy in the garden. If patrons find something they like, they may purchase bottles or cases to take home.
Featured wineries at the 2009 event include: Barefoot Winery, Banfi Natura, Maryhill Winery, Canoe Ridge, Sagelands Winery, Knipprath Cellars, Frei Brothers, Bridlewood, Samson Estates Winery, Hoodsport Winery and Stina’s Cellars. Along with the many varieties to sip and savor, guests can enjoy live jazz all weekend at the Sagelands/98.9 KWJZ stage, also a part of the wine-tasting experience.
Proceeds from Wine & Roses support the Greater Metro Parks Foundation’s efforts to improve the quality of parks, playgrounds and recreation programs for the benefit of all. The Foundation’s mission is as follows: “The Greater Metro Parks Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization that invites you to build a healthier, more vibrant community by investing in people and parks.” Wine & Roses is sponsored by The News Tribune.
