What I’ve Accomplished
Like I said in my background, I have been going at full speed since I can remember, and there’s no stopping now. The world of PR is within arm’s reach and I am about to grab it by the horns. I have been interested in marketing and public relations since high school. The classes I took in the last 6 years have opened my eyes and sharpened my communication skills.
During my freshman year of high school, I job shadowed my aunt for a class assignment. She was the marketing and relations manager for Valley Medical Center. That day, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life. I watched her create publications and talk with people about all the ins and outs of the company. It all seemed so exciting.
Sophomore year of high school, I took my first marketing class and was instantly hooked. Creating business plans, marketing plans and campaigns was extremely interesting and exciting for me and let my creative mind go wild.
At Green River Community College, I enrolled in my first Communication courses. These were may favorite out of all the classes I took. I enjoyed learning how to communicate, how to listen, how to relate and how to write. I should have known where I was going when I was younger. I was always getting into trouble in grade school for talking too much…
As I graduated high school in 2007, I made it to Washington State University and enrolled in the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication with a public relations major and in the College of Business with a minor in marketing. My experience, skills and strengths have only grown since then.
In May, 2009, I interned at Festivals Inc. in Issaquah, WA doing public relations for the Bite of Seattle and the Taste of Tacoma. I wrote press releases, stuffed press kits, organized and held meetings, talked with vendors and guests, created logos and sponsorship recaps, worked hands on at huge events with over 450,000 guests… It was an experience of a life time.
From there, my portfolio and resume have only grown to extraordinary heights. Throughout this website, you will find my resume, samples from my portfolio, and discussions on the latest news, updates and developments in public relations and marketing.
Finally, I finished my last semester at WSU and graduated in December, 2009 with a BA in Communications with a major in Public Relations and a minor in Marketing. The 2.5 short years at college flew by FAST! I am now in the job market working on starting my career in the Marketing/Communications industry.
